6 Easy steps to create a letterhead template

No matter what stage you’re at in your business, letterheads are one of those things that are incredibly handy to have, and as a born organiser and forward thinker I like to have business templates like this ready to go because you just don’t now when you’re going to need to use it!

Creating one can be a bit tricky if you’re not to sure where to begin, but I’ve got 6 easy steps to help you get there:

  1. Make sure the font you use is clear, easy to read and professional. I know how pretty “Lucinda Handwriting” is but letterheads aren’t where we need to get creative with our style of text. Anything like “Arial, Calibri or Tahoma” are all great font’s which I highly recommend.

  2. Size matters when it comes to text! As a rule of thumb I would generally stay between 10-14 font size. Anything below 10pt is too small to read comfortably, and anything above 14 is just unecessary. There is no right or wrong here, just play around with the sizes until you find what works best for you.

  3. Always ensure that the date and recipients details are clearly displayed, usually on the top left hand side of the document. [Hot tip - give yourself about 3 spaces in between the date and the name of your recipient so it’s not all bunched up].

  4. Spread the context of your letter out over a minimum of 3 paragraphs. This is [again] not just only easier to read, but also aesthetically pleasing and very profesh! [Hot tip - if you’re listing information try listing them in bullet point form rather than separate with a comma].

  5. Pop your logo, business name, ABN/ACN in the header/footer of the document [and page numbers too if you like].

  6. And finally… save your document as a template! This way each time you use it you will need to save it as a separate document and your template will always remain the same [unless you change or update it of course].

That’s it folks! No smoke and mirrors when it comes to creating a letterhead template, however if you’re still feeling a bit overwhelmed with all of this or just don’t have the time - drop me a line at allysha@theorganisedboss.com.au as I’d love to help create this for you.
